OFFER DESCRIPTION

The Project IsoCAN (Isolation and evolution in oceanic islands: the colonisation of the Canary Islands) funded by the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (grant 851733) is seeking a project manager to provide support with the technical, financial, logistical and outreach aspects of the project. The contract will be full-time (37.5 h per week) for three years from March 1, 2021 to February 29, 2024.

IsoCAN project will explore the first colonisation of the Canary Islands from the beginning of the Common Era to the 15th century AD, which represents the last expansion of the Mediterranean farming package. This project will (1) establish the chronology of the initial colonisation of the Canary Islands; (2) determine the geographic origins and the genetic variability of the human population, domesticates (animals and plants) and parasitic species (insects); (3) define the process of adaptation and resilience of the first settlers; and (4) investigate human impact on landscape and the management of natural resources.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Proven experience in grant/project management
  • Proven experience in writing technical and scientific documents, and editing and translation of technical and scientific documents
  • Experience coordinating research and proposals and projects funded by the Framework Programme of the European Commission, the Spanish Plan Estatal as well as bilateral contracts with the Canary Islands administration, will be an advantage.
  • Project management skills and knowledge of project management principles and best practices
  • Fluent in English, Spanish and French (oral and written)
  • Service oriented and problem-solving attitude

Specific Requirements

  • Experience in heritage project management. Experience in projects within the Spanish legislative framework will be positively considered.
  • The ability to manage projects under strict timelines as well as the ability to work well in a demanding, dynamic, and deadline-oriented environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills suitable for a multicultural environment
